Argo 1.0.1 is out on the App Store, and it carries two real changes rather than the usual pile of small fixes. The first is a rework of the daily encouragement notifications, now called Mirror. The second is a new way to unlock your journal using an Ethereum wallet, alongside the two ways you already had. Here's what actually changed and why it might matter to how you use the app.
Mirror: three honest reflections instead of five generic ones
The old “daily encouragement” feature sent you a rotating message once a day, picked from a small set of generic lines. It was fine, but it wasn't really about you. Mirror replaces it with three short reflections a day, one in the morning, one in the afternoon, and one in the evening, and each one is grounded in what you actually wrote.
That distinction matters more than it sounds. A generic encouragement can go out to anyone. A Mirror reflection only gets generated from your own recent entries, so if you haven't written anything worth reflecting on, you won't get a notification pretending otherwise. No entries this week means no invented insight showing up on your lock screen.
If you miss one, it isn't gone. Settings now has a Mirror History screen where every delivered reflection sits with its time of day and timestamp, newest first. It's a small addition, but it turns what used to be a disposable push notification into something you can actually go back and read.
Mirror is on by default, same as the old encouragements were, and it asks for the same notification permission the app already requested before. You can turn it off in Settings at any time, which cancels anything still pending for the day and stops new ones from being scheduled.
A third way to unlock your journal
The bigger structural change in this release is optional, and it's aimed at a specific kind of user: someone who already has a crypto wallet and wants one less thing to remember.
Argo has always protected your journal with end-to-end encryption, and until now you could unlock it two ways: through iCloud Keychain, or with a recovery code you saved somewhere safe. 1.0.1 adds a third option. If you connect an Ethereum wallet to your account, you can enroll it as a key. From then on, signing a message with that wallet is enough to unlock your journal on a new device, no recovery code required.
It's worth being specific about what this is and isn't. It's purely additive: your iCloud Keychain and recovery code both keep working exactly as before, whether or not you set up a wallet. And it only works with a wallet you personally hold the keys to. Smart-contract wallets like Gnosis Safe or Argent get rejected at enrollment with a plain explanation, because they can't produce the kind of deterministic signature the unlock check depends on. If you sign in from a wallet on Base, Arbitrum, or Optimism instead of Ethereum mainnet, that's fine too, the feature was built to work across chains from the start.
The setup lives in Settings, under a card that only shows up once you've linked a wallet. Tap it, sign the message your wallet prompts you for, and the card switches to show your wallet is enrolled. If you ever lose access to your device and need to get back in on a new one, you'll see an “Unlock with Wallet” option sitting next to the recovery code screen, and you can switch between the two if the first one doesn't work.
Three keys, one journal
Put together, that's iCloud, a recovery code, and now a wallet, three independent ways into the same encrypted journal. None of them depends on the others, so losing access to one doesn't lock you out if you've set up another. You don't have to touch any of this to keep journaling the way you already do. Mirror will keep showing up three times a day if you leave it on, and your existing unlock method will keep working exactly as it did in 1.0.0.
Both changes are live now in the current build. If you update and don't see Mirror History or the wallet card in Settings right away, force-close the app and reopen it.
